IN RICHMOND..ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS MADE SEVERAL UNANNOUNCED VISITS TO SCHOOLS EARLIER THIS YEAR. SCHOOLS WERE OBSERVED TO SEE HOW THINGS WERE BEING RUN. AS A RESULT–10 PRINCIPALS WERE TOLD THEY’D BE INVITED TO TEACH OR BE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK. SCHOOLS INCLUDED THOMAS JEFFERSON, JOHN MARSHALL AND GEORGE WYTHE. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY–WHERE STUDENTS AT WYTHE –STAGED A WALK-OUT. IN WAS ALL IN AN EFFORT TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THEIR PRINCIPAL REVA GREEN–WHO ENDED UP RESIGNING EARLIER THIS MONTH. 8 NEWS REPORTER TALYA CUNNINGHAM JOINS US LIVE FROM GEORGE WYTHE WITH MORE ON THE STORY. STUDENTS SAY ITS UNJUST AND UNBELIEVABLE..THAT THEIR PRINCIPAL WON’T BE RETURNING NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS MARCHED OUT OF CLASS TODAY … HOPING TO SEND A MESSAGE TO JASON KAMRAS AND THE RICHMOND SCHOOL BOARD. nats…save miss green, save miss green UPSET STUDENTS FIGHTING TO SAVE THEIR PRINCIPAL “we just can’t imagine george wythe being george wythe without miss green” AT 11 THIS MORNING –STUDENTS WALKED OUT OF CLASS..CHANTING… HOLDING POSTERS READING “YOU’RE EITHER WYTHE US OR AGAINST US” REVA GREEN….26 YEARS IN EDUCATION….6 OF THOSE AS PRINCIPAL AT GEORGE WYTHE AND MAKING HISTORY AS THE FIRST FEMALE TO HOLD THE TITLE. “she was sent over to george wythe to mainly encourage and build a community together so the kids would focus on learning instead of the fights and arguments that used to be heard about at george wythe” CHARLES WILLIS ATTENDED THE WALK-OUT AND SAYS HE IS IN VERY CLOSE CONTACT WITH MISS GREENE “I can tell you that principal green did not voluntarily want to leave george wythe high school” RPS OFFICIALS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF FILTERING OUT POSITIONS….KNOWING SHE WAS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK…GREEN ANNOUNCED HER RESIGNATION AND WON’T BE RETURNING NEXT YEAR…SOMETHING HER STUDENTS ARE AGAINST. “miss greene she knows the better in us…all the outsiders all they see in the negative…but nobody sees the good grades, all the good athletes, all the scholarships/college acceptances that come from so many of our students” THESE STUDENTS TOOK A STAND TODAY HOPING TO GET NOTICED BY RPS OFFICIALS “miss greene we care, we don’t want to tell we care we want to show you, you care” *chants* Jason Kamras- rps superintendent “i’m looking forward to having students participate in the community panel process for the selection of the next leader at wythe” SUPERINTENDENT JASON KAMRAS DID SAY THAT THE HIRING PROCESS HAS ALREADY STARTED IN LOOKING FOR NEW PRINCIPALS.
