Usain Bolt on his plans after retirement | CNBC Sports

He is the biggest superstar that this sport
has ever had. He’s dominated. He’s won everything there is to win. For his height, they said he shouldn’t be
running so fast. For where he’s from, they’re saying he shouldn’t
be who he is. Usain, it’s lovely to meet you. Why did you
feel it was the right time to do the film I am Bolt? What do you want the audience to take away
from it? I said we need to do a film to show people
that it’s a lot of hard work and determination. There’s a lot of ups and downs, there’s
a lot that goes in to being a champion. And it’s not just show up on the track and
run. So that’s what I wanted the audience to see
and that’s why I did this movie. And I personally think it put that across
to the fans and they will love it. And are you happy with the result when you
watch it back? Is it a bit strange for you to see it? No for me is it was actually well done because
when I was watching it it gave me all the feelings that I had throughout the seasons.
So for me that actually showed that they really captured what exactly I wanted, all the heartbreaks,
the joy, the stress leading up to the championships and stuff like that really came back through
the movie to me. I really enjoy training. Let me take that back. You’ve got the World Championships obviously
in London next August and that’s going to be your final time..? It’s my final championship… I know it’s going to be a sad moment for the
sport and for myself. I know I’m going to miss competing, not the
training but just competing in front of crowds and bringing joy and seeing the fans and just
the energy. So I’ll be happy to be done but it’s going
to be sad that I’m actually leaving the sport so…..it’s going to be mixed feelings. What do you want to do? I want to stay in track and field because
I know its going through a rough time now and I want to be a part of uplifting it now
and pushing it forward you know what I mean. And other things that I’ve told my team that
I really want to do more work with my charity the Usain Bolt Foundation that’s something
that, we have one big project I’m working on and that’s a clinic in Jamaica and that’s
where we’re really focused on for the younger kids for the injured athletes mainly because
in Jamaica it’s hard to get care, sports care. So it’s something that we are trying to make
as cheap as possible, even free if possible. So there’s those two things are my two main
focus when I retire, but my team I’m sure they’ll find something else for me to do. Because you are so young. You’ve got so much time ahead of you and I
know also from the film your mother was quite keen maybe on mini Bolts? Yeah. They’ve really been pressuring me a little
bit about trying to get grandkids so we’ll see how that goes.
