Sri Siva Shankar Baba – Mahaans | The story of Yogi Ramsuratkumar | with English Subtitles

Once there lived a Mahaan, Yogi Ramsurathkumar. During his last days he lived in Tiruvannamalai
though he was born in a village near Kashi. He was a school teacher, was married and had children. He was an ordinary school teacher in North
India. One day after washing his clothes, he sways a cloth in the air to remove excess water before putting it for drying and it hits a
sparrow. The sparrow dies. Seeing this, Ramsuratkumar feels very sad. He cries for being the reason for sparrow’s
death and fervently prays for sparrow’s life back. It doesn’t happen. So, he goes to the banks of river Ganges, buries the sparrow and goes to the Kashi Vishwanath temple there. There he feels a spiritual awakening. He has a change of heart. He leaves his job as a school teacher, his
wife, children and starts to travel like a wanderer from one place to another because of the spiritual spark. Sometimes, some elevated souls lives in different forms, like a crow, sparrow, parrot, snake, etc. Like Sukhabrahmam and Arunagirinathar were parrot Similarly, an elevated soul with a lot of
penance to its credit must have been in the form of the sparrow. In spirituality, it is always the transfer of energy Neither creation nor destruction, but just
the transfer of energy from one body to another. So the energy which existed in the sparrow
(an elevated soul) gets transferred to Ramsuratkumar. He has a spiritual awakening in the pretext
of drying clothes. As mentioned in Devaram, when the time is
right, things meant to happen will happen. You don’t have to search God. If you are owed that experience, things will
automatically come in search of you. As Tiruvasagam says, things bound to happen
will happen and you need not go in search of God or a Guru. You are only a witness and not a performer. Ramsuratkumar has a change of heart and like a beggar he wanders around north India and meets many Godmen. They advise him that there are no good Guru in north and that he should go to the South. So first he comes to Ramana Maharshi in Tiruvannamalai. Next he goes to Aravinder in Pondicherry. Further, he goes to Ramdas Swami in Kanchangad. Kanchangad is in Kerala and Karnataka border,
near Kasargod further Calicut. Though he kept wandering around, he did not feel completely in sync with any people he met so far. So, he returns back to North India and continues to wander. Once there, he hears the news that, Aravinder and Ramana Maharshi has passed away. Feeling that there is only one other Guru
left, he returns back to Kanchangad in the south. There he learnt the Rama nama japam “Om
Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram” and continued to live there At one point of time, he acted like a mentally
instable person, constantly chanting the Rama nama, dancing near a tree somewhere, holding
his Guru’s feet and crying, etc. In the meanwhile, his wife and children come
in search of him. So he goes to his Guru and asks him if he
can provide accommodation to his family, so that he and his family can serve and live
in the same ashram. The Guru asks him to leave the ashram and
when Ramsuratkumar questions as to what to do, where to go, and the Guru advises him to go anywhere and beg. So that is why until his last days, he had
a hand-fan and a begging bowl with him and continued to beg in Tiruvannamalai. He sends his wife and children back to their
village. Because the Guru advised him to go anywhere
and beg, he comes to Tiruvannamalai. For the next 40-45 years, he wandered in the
crematory and continued to chant the Rama nama. At a point of time, some of the nadar businessmen from Sivakasi hear about him and start respecting him. Why Respect him? Long back there was a Mahaan named Vaikundar, and Yogi RamsuratKumar soul was Vaikundar in previous birth, he was called Swami thoppu Vaikundar Ayya Because of the old connection
businessmen felt affinity towards Ramsuratkumar. Soul’s connection is a weird and confusing
subject. As the Bible states- “no one knows from where
the wind blows from nor where it goes. So it is with the person fit with the Holy
Spirit”. Similarly, someone else’s soul can come
in some other form and the why, when, where, who and, where the soul will go after the
current body perishes, no one knows. Same was Jesus Christ’s experience. Summarizing, an elevated soul entered Ramsuratkumar,
he wandered, renounced his previous life and came to Kanchangad once to go back and return again, gained the Rama nama and continued to chant it. Due to the affinity of the nadar businessmen to Swami thoppu Vaikundar swami ayya, they had magnetic attraction towards Yogi Ramsurtkumar due to past birth connection In previous birth they were benefited by Vaikundar swami. So the businessmen arranged accommodation for him in Tiruvannamalai. A lot of people do not understand the actions of a Mahaan. Ramsuratkumar would keep smoking. You would think him as sub-par because he
smoked constantly, but in reality, the reason he smoked is different. When a mahaan reaches the ecstatic state of mind during meditation, he needs something to bring him back to present state. for example, Ramakrishna paramahamsa would go to the kitchen and taste the curry made for the meals or start drumming his fingers on an aluminum plate. When people condemned him for the silly activity, he said “In a second my mind reaches Goddess Kali. Because I’ve to pull it back to be in the
present, I’m performing these mindless or silly activities” Similarly a few Mahaans will keep a pretext
to bring themselves back to the present when their mind reaches ecstasy. So for Ramsuratkumar, his cigarette was the
pretext. He would assume that the burning of cigarette
was the yagam (fire sacrifice). In his other hand which would constantly be moving the hand fan and mentally chanting the Rama nama. So when he reaches ecstasy, the burning of
the cigarette tip on his lips brings him back to the present time. Being a Mahaan is the toughest job. For instance, a person who climbs the hill
can enjoy being on top whereas for another person trying to climb, it’s a difficult path. Just asking the person to climb to reach the top is not possible. So the person on top has to come down and help the other person also to reach the top. Similarly, in spirituality, the Mahaan’s
reach the top and every time a seeker seeks them they come down and again make the journey to the top. It is a great compromise and torture to the
Mahaans in a way. (Repeating) Ramsuratkumar Swami would reach
the high level of ecstasy and burning of the cigarette bud on his lips would bring him
back. But how does he bless people? If I don’t tell you, you wouldn’t know. All this can be realized only when one has
self-realization. So when you go to meet Yogi Ramsuratkumar, he would
have had in his mind to do some good for you. So he would ask you to sit opposite him and
smoke the cigarette on your face and in your name chant the Rama nama. Lord Rama materializes himself for anyone
who can chant his name 13 crore times. Isn’t possible for an ordinary person! He chanted Rama nama for 40-45 years and 24×7. Imagine how many crores of Rama nama Ramsuratkumar would have to his credit. For instance, if you have a debt of 5,000
and Ramsuratkumar has 10 crore with him, he can give you 5,000 to free you of debt. He has accumulated crores of Rama nama japam to his credit. So he would keep a count for everyone who
visits him and seeks his grace, like 108, 27, etc. He will give you those many Rama nama blessings, and smoke the cigarette as the sacred fire sacrifice and using the hand fan transfers
the smoke/ blessings to you. This is how Mahaan’s work. No one can understand the workings of a Mahaan. Because the number of people visiting him
increased multifold, his followers, build him an ashram even when he said there was no need. So they built an ashram where there is an
idol of Ramsuratkumar swami sitting as well as standing. And once he attained meditative consciousness,
they installed a Siva Lingam on his resting place Anyone can go and visit there. Even today, his Jeeva Samadhi (though dead
physically, a part of soul continues to exist in the body to help others in their prayers)
is there. In his last days, he fell ill. That is one drawback of many Mahaans. They will not take care of their physical
body. In that matter, I (Siva Shankar Baba) am different. I exercise daily, walk a lot, eat in limits,
etc. In the ecstasy of being with the God, many
Mahaans don’t keep themselves hydrated or keep their body clean. This causes a problem in their later days and could lead to immobility. Some become fat, some have problems with their joints, etc. Many of Mahaans have suffered this way physically. so, my general advice would be, one has to maintain their physical body. Unknowing of this factor, many Mahaans have suffered. Similarly, Ramsuratkumar swami didn’t drink
enough water to keep himself hydrated or eat properly or keep his body clean or exercise. Therefore, in his last days he was diagnosed
with urinary cancer. Once, I (Siva Shankar Baba), fasted for 48
days without a morsel of food in Tiruvannamalai. I would be in the temple all the time, circumvent
the hill twice a day, morning and evening. Our relationship was funny. Suddenly, he (Ramsuratkumar) would stand and
start making rounds. I would accompany him. And every time he would see a beggar, he would
ask me, “Siva Shankara, do you have some money?” When I would answer “yes”, he would ask
me to buy vada (Indian savory snack) to all of them Near a corner wall, he would go and urinate. After that he would come and stand near a tap, and I
would wash his feet. In my mind I would think of performing pada
puja to him. He would also jovially hit me on my back. It is his way of expressing love. Once when I visited him after visiting Kedarnath
and Badrinath, he hugged me, jovially hit me on my back and and said “You are Kedar, You are Badri”. Mahaans express their love in a subtle and different ways. In fact they have more love then a normal
person. Their way of expressing is different. When I was towards the end of my 48 days fast in Tiruvannamalai, Ramsuratkumar swami took me to the patala Lingam temple of Ramana, opposite the Ganesha temple and made me sit there. At that time, the electricity was cut off
across the town. At the same time, someone broke 27 coconuts
in the Ganesha temple. He showed me a light in the sky and said don’t
worry about electricity. We circumvented the temple once and came out. On our way out, someone got savory and sweet
snacks. Looking at it, he said to me “Siva Shankara,
my father wants you to break your fast and that’s why he has sent both sweet and savory”. At the same time, a poor lady approached Ramsuratkumar swami and asked him if he would like to eat some rasam rice. He took it in his bowl. He made me sit across him and mixed the rasam
rice in his bowl and fed me one handful at a time. Once I was finished eating, he washed his
hand in his bowl and asked me to drink the water. In Siddhar’s (learned person) way, it is
a way of giving. So that is how he transferred all his energy
to me by the grace of Lord Annamalaiyar. He transferred everything that he accumulated over the 40-45 years by chanting Rama nama. During my 48 days fast, he prepared my body for the energy transfer and through rasam rice transferred his entire energy to me. Similar to how in Shirdi Baba’s case his
Guru asked him to drink milk. So now, Siva Shankar Baba and Ramsuratkumar swami are one and the same because he gave me all the power he accumulated by chanting
Rama nama for 40-45 years. I’ve built a temple for Ramsuratkumar Swami,
near the Tirichendur Murugan temple in our campus There is a constant chanting of Rama nama there. I’m the closest person and therefore, he
and I are one and the same. There are reasons behind it. When he was Kabir Das in his previous birth, he chanted the Rama nama. Even in this birth, he chanted Rama nama. So the Lord Rama he prayed to is me
(Siva Shankar Baba). So where will his accumulated power go if
not come to me? All the difficulties he underwent in his previous
birth or current birth was in the name of Lord Rama and my soul was Lord Rama in one of my previous birth. Therefore, his accumulated power has to come to me and it came. This is divine destiny. Like the rivers will merge with the ocean,
his power merged with mine.
