Sri Siva Shankar Baba – Festival Discourses | Christmas | with English Subtitles

This is a cold night of the month Margazhi (December). Aandal who sang “Thiruppavai”, says
“Koodi irunthu kulirthero empaavai” Meaning: Being with God, Thinking of HIM and worshiping HIM When she sings that stanza thinking of GOD, She prays that for ever and in all her births, she wants to be with the GOD himself “And work for him, will be bound to God in eternal relationship, And to God alone, will we be his slave. Please, liberate us from whatever other desires we have” Likewise, for all those loyal disciples of Jesus Christ, We have gathered here to celebrate this special day with the good thought that the pleasant relationship that we have now with God, will last for ever.. As mentioned in thirupaavai: “Koodi irundu Kurilethedo empaavai”, is a direct reference to what is happening here When we think of Christmas, When we think of Christmas, following messages comes to our mind 1) People are still remembering a Mahaan/God’s Messanger/God/Divine person who was born more than 2002 years ago in bethlehem this itself is a proof that for what reason, he had sacrificed HIS life has not gone waste ! So many historic events happened in the past 2000 years and are not registered in people’s mind. But the Birth of Jesus Christ in a Cow shed is celebrated in all countries, more than 50% of the World’s population is celebrating his birth as a global festival is the 1st message we should remember Imagine the amount of penance/scarification Jesus would have undergone to reach this level “Yaadhanin Yaadhanin Neengiyaan Nodhal Adhanin Adhanin Ilan” (Tirukural) Meaning “Whatever thing, a man has renounced, by that thing; he cannot suffer pain.” As said “Even birds has nest to stay, But for the Son of GOD (Jesus Christ), there wasn’t even a place to rest his head” When compared with the other saints who have come to this World A saint, Jesus, who lived a simple life, spent his entire life with poor people, sacrificed his life for the poor what respect HE gets even after so many years is the 1st lesson which we should all learn from his life history on this very special Christmas day. 2nd lesson: When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the first people to know about that incident and went to celebrate it, were “three Wise Men” from east. According to the bible, They were the first one to know the Messianic prophecy that “Birth of Messiah” is going to happen and they came seeking the Christ child with gifts So, when the GOD decides to send his Messiah Wise Men of this World will come to know the presence of Divine energy irrespective of the place of being, is the 2nd lesson we should know. in that sense, people from our part of the world were the first one to know the “Birth of Messiah” and visited Jesus to pay their respect when he was born. is the 2nd lesson we should know 3rd lesson, Gabrial, the holy messenger of God, whispered before the Birth of Jesus the following sentence, ” let peace prevail in the world for all” This is what we need to think Almost 2000 years completed, Gabrial’s words cannot be a lie The spiritual might of Jesus cannot be untrue But why peace is not prevailing in the world? why isn’t every one happy? God called Ramalinga Adigalar (Vallalar) and said the following: My people were holding on to this madness called religious separations and were dying. My children were fighting in the name of religious discrimination and killing themself “purrathe veluthu aggathe karutha, jaggathai thirutha iraivanaale varuvikkalutren” Meaning: People appear to be fair and forward thinking on the outside But are living with ill thoughts inside, hence please bless them with good thoughts. Tell the people to shower love and live peacfully is the work given by God to Vallalar according to him Jesus came to this world only to bring peace and stability even when he was crucified, Jesus said “father forgive them for they no not what they do” by saying so, was forgiving those who were crucifying him even at the time of his death Even HIS scarifications and tolerance, didn’t bring peace and stability to this world. And still we are searching for it And the reason for this situation is not God, not even the messenger of GOD “Jesus”. Its we the people For the very people, for whom all these sacrifices were done by Jesus are fighting and dying There is a wonderful English Novel named “ILLUSIONS” written by Richard Bach There is a scene in that novel where a prophet calls his devotees Without explaining, he will say “I quit” Meaning: “I am going to leave this job. I am no more going to play this role of a prophet” Everyone asks him ” How can you do that ?” He answers that question with a story there were 2 crabs sitting on top of a rock. One of the crabs asked the other crab, how long will we be sitting in this boring rock and waste our time, let me jump into the river and enjoy the new environment For which the other crab replied “No No there is definite death” hearing this reply, the crab which proposed this idea said “instead of definite boredom, I prefer definite death” Meaning: instead of living a dull, uninteresting life, useless gossips, hurting and finally becoming a useless prey, I prefer a definite death” The crab jumped from the rock into the water After enjoying the serenity inside the water, this crab comes back to the other crab and says why are you wasting your life in this rock I will show you beautiful things in the world, come with me But the other crab, instead of following this crab which wanted to show the world, was holding on to the rock ever firmly and was hailing the glory of this crab likewise, in this world so many Mahaans came to guide us instead of following them, following the path shown by them, we lost the path shown by them and were only hailing their glory That is the only reason why even after 2000 years, peace and happiness is not prevailing in this world. only when, as Jesus said, “Wish goodness even for our enemy” and the sense of not retaliating even when one is slapped that day we can assume that every one has become a true Christian There was a saint called “Gurunanak” once he was walking on the road, A lady out of her own frustration due to miseries in her life, immersed a cloth in cow dung and threw it on HIS face He took that cloth to his house, washed it, cut it into small threads and used it for lighting lamps every day in front of GOD. Asking God, what level of misery in her life would have forced her to behave like that! Why don’t you solve her problems was his plea and prayer to GOD We have seen how much his sacrifice and advises went into drain in Punjab (where he lived). The very reason for which he lived and showed his life lessons as example in Punjab went in vein and only blood shed was happening in punjab There was a philosopher named “Vedantha desikar” His enemies who wanted to insult him hanged slipper Wreath in front of his house Thinking that once he opens the slippers will hit his face and they can enjoy that scene As planned, the slippers hit his face. He accepted it with respect Seeing this, those people, asked him , “Why are you not getting angry ? We thought of insulting you.” For which he said, every one in this world are devotees of GOD, children of GOD, You people paved the way for me to greet the slippers of GOD with respect, so I wanted to show my gratitude to you people for this opportunity A man spit the pan he was chewing when Mother Theresa was seeking food for poor people She bore the insult and said, “this is enough for me, but give something else for the needy to eat”. Even when Jesus was crucified, Jesus pleaded to God “Father forgive them for they not know what they are doing” Like this, so many spiritual saints have come to this world, strive to guide the people, guided the people, enlightened them But people were only keeping their images, holding their symbols but did not follow their preachings. when this world realizes that the sacrifice of Jesus is ours, Or Lord Rama’s Dharma (Virtue) is ours Or the kindness of Lord Buddha is something we need to implement in our life Or we learn at least one life lesson from all the saints who have come in this world And try to implement it in our life We can call that day as the real day of Christmas celebration. Till such time Since we have faith in GOD and loyal to him, This christmas day will remain only as a day where we can thank, hail, adore remember Jesus . The very purpose of His holy birth in the cow shed in Bethlehem that is, to bring peace and tranquility to this world The very person (Jesus), whose was let down by HIS own disciples, The very person (Jesus), whose own disciple betrayed him for 30 silver coins The very person(Jesus) who was doubted by his disciple Thomas when he said that he will come to life 3 days after his crucification And his sacrifices are going into drain is something which we should all remember This is what we should know on this special “Christmas day”, as a loyal disciples, as a true followers of Jesus Christ, at least from this Christmas day, we should become more mature and strive to implement the lessons learned from these Divine men We pray to God for that maturity and I bless you all in the name of God by submitting ourselves to the lotus feet of ALMIGHTY. Thanks
