SMA discusses the Blended Retirement System

– Hello, I’m Sergeant Major
Of The Army, Dan Dailey. You’ve probably heard lots
of discussion this year about the new Blended Retirement System. If you’re one of the eligible, active, reserve, or National Guard service members who still has yet to make a decision, your clock is ticking. And we are rapidly approaching
the opt-in deadline of December 31st, 2018. There’s lots to consider when
you’re making your decision. But we have resources
available to help you. The biggest thing to remember about The Blended Retirement
System is that it offers you government provided retirement benefits even if you don’t serve
a full 20 year career. Of course you’d still have
to serve a full career in order to earn a pension. If there’s a possibly
you won’t serve 20 years, you should think very
strongly about opting-in to The Blended Retirement System and what it could mean for you, both personally and professionally. Even if you do think you
might serve a full career, you may be interested in the options under The Blended Retirement System. Deciding between The Legacy System and The Blended Retirement System is a highly personal choice
that only you can make. Talk with trusted family and
friends about your choice and get free support from a
Personal Financial Manager or Counselor at your installation, or through Military OneSource. If you do decide that The
Blended Retirement System is the choice for you, ensure you opt-in by December, 31, 2018. Through MyPay, Marine Online,
or Direct Access depending on your branch of service. The choice is yours but
remember the clock is ticking. For more information
