Retirement Party

[Kyndall] Hey guys,
it’s Kyndall from Hallmark. One of the most exciting milestones in life is the day you finally get to kick back, relax,
and retire. I’m here today in the Hallmark aisle to meet Whitney,
who needs our help throwing an awesome retirement party
for her dad. Let’s check out her video.
[Whitney] Hey HyVee and Hallmark, my name is Whitney, and I’m hoping
that maybe you can help me plan an amazing retirement party for my dad. I’m so proud of all of his
accomplishments that he’s done at the office as well as at home.
I really want him just to feel celebrated and loved, and just really special
at an event like this, and I’m going to need your help. I have no idea what I’m doing
when it comes to planning a party. and I need you to come help me
figure out how to do something that will just make him feel loved and admired, and something that he will remember
for many years to come. Thanks!>>WHITNEY- Hey, Kyndall.
>>KYNDALL- Whitney, hi! How are you? [OVERLAPPING VOICES]
>>KYNDALL – So good to see you. I’m so excited to be
helping you out today.>>WHITNEY- I need all the help
I can get.>>KYNDALL- Ok, great Well, I have everybody
meet me here in the Hallmark aisle, because it’s full of inspiration.
And it’s a great way to bring special meaning and emotion
to your event. I was thinking we could start by just looking at
the retirement cards, and seeing if there’s anything that inspires you,
makes you think of your dad.>>WHITNEY- I like these. He loves
the beach, and definitely plans to travel more, now that he’s retired.
>>KYNDALL- OK, good, well I would hope so, that’s what it’s about.
That makes me think that maybe we could do a fun beach theme for the party.
>>WHITNEY- He would love that.>>KYNDALL- Everybody would love that,
who doesn’t love the beach? It’ll keep it really fun, laid back.
And one of the ideas I have for a fun gift for your dad is
a retirement survival kit. So we can fill it with all the things
he needs for the beach, like sunscreen, new sunglasses, flipflops, anything
that would be really helpful for him.>>WHITNEY- I love that. Maybe we could
also include a picture of him and I that he could just take with him
anywhere.>>KYNDALL- Oh yeah, yeah! Yeah yeah that’s great! So I think
he’ll love this, it’ll be really helpful for him on the beach, but I think
it’ll also tell him how much you appreciate all his hard work.
>>WHITNEY- I definitely do.>>KYNDALL- Let’s finish up shopping here
for all of our supplies, and then let’s go meet with our HyVee expert. Ok
>>WHITNEY- Sounds great, let’s do it.>>KYNDALL- Hey Marlo!
>>MARLO- Hey Kyndall!>>KYNDALL- So Whitney, this is Marlo,
she’s our catering expert. We work with her for all of our parties.
She’s so great. So this is Whitney, she is throwing a retirement party
for her dad.>>MARLO- Oh, how exciting!>>KYNDALL- And we’re doing it
really fun, like tropical beach theme. Like sand, sun, it’s going to be awesome.
>>MARLO- Well, I think I have some great ideas that would tie in with
a beach theme party. We have a taco bar, that I think would be a great fit.
You can tie in the ground beef, and the chicken, all the toppings,
super colorful. And you could even add some tropical fruit.
>>KYNDALL- Oh, yeah.>>WHITNEY- Wow.>>MARLO- Now every good party has to
have desserts.>>KYNDALL- So true. OK, and they have Stephanie here, who’s
their cake expert. She’s so talented.>>MARLO- I’m thinking, maybe a cake
that looks like a coconut, or maybe just– OK, perfect, then just some different
beach themed desserts. I can get with Stephanie and we can talk
about some great ideas–>>KYNDALL- OK,>>MARLO- I know she’ll have a ton of them.
>>KYNDALL- Great, great. OK, but ladies, also, no beach party would be complete
without a cocktail.>>WHITNEY- Oh and my dad loves his beer, and anything with
rum in it.>>MARLO- Yes, this party definitely needs a signature cocktail.
So why don’t we get you over to wine and spirits, and I’ll have you
talk to Tony?>>KYNDALL- Oh, great.>>WHITNEY- Thank you.>>MARLO- Thank you.
>>KYNDALL- Thanks so much Marlo. See you later.>>KYNDALL- We met with Tony, our
wine and spirits expert to go over the ingredients for a signature cocktail
Siesta on the Beach. We also picked up some airplane bottles
of liquor for our retirement survival kit and beer for the party before heading out.>>WHITNEY- Hi, how are you?
>>KYNDALL- Hi! Good how are you?>>KYNDALL- You remember Marlo?
>>WHITNEY- Hi Marlo, how are you?>>KYNDALL- And this is Stephanie.
She’s our amazing cake expert. We’re going to get started
setting up here, in your amazing space, and then you and I will get started
on the DIY.>>WHITNEY- Sounds great, let’s do it.
>>KYNDALL- OK, I’ll leave you to it, ladies. OK Whitney, we’re going to make
some really fun, piñata-inspired table decorations. And they’re going to be
cute little pineapples when we’re all done.>>WHITNEY- Ok.>>KYNDALL- For this DIY,
we need a vase, and it’s just sort of in the shape of a pineapple already.
We need the tissue paper that we got from the Hallmark aisle, scissors,
masking tape, and a hot glue gun. The first thing we’re going to do is
unfold our tissue paper here. And we’re just going to cut along
the folds that are already provided for us. You’ll end up with all of these strips,
and we’re just going to fold them in half, in half again, and you’ll just keep
>>WHITNEY- Ok. doing that until we end up with a really
small little square. Perfect! Leave all the folded edges up at the top,
and then cut a triangle out, and it gives you all the edges that
are going to be for a pineapple. So to make the crown of the pineapple,
we take one sheet of our green tissue. Fold it in half, fold it in half again,
and then a third time. We’re going to cut two V-shapes just like one-third
of the way into the tissue. Make sure you’re doing a rounded edge. And then
the other one you’re going to cut about two-thirds of the way, so it’s a little
bit longer. So it’ll look something like this. Then we fold this, and then we roll it up,
tape it around just like that.>>WHITNEY- That is so cute!
>>KYNDALL- It’ll look something like this!>>WHITNEY- I love it! Ok.
>>KYNDALL- So let’s start building this guy.>>KYNDALL- Cut a circle out of the
yellow tissue paper, and this is going to cover up the base of our piñata pineapple.
Perfect, that’s great. Then, we can start to attach our little pineapple pieces.
It’s nice to alternate.>WHITNEY- OK.>>KYNDALL- You can see it’s already
looking so cute. I like to just stuff tissue paper inside of it to prop up
the crown. So we’ll just stick this guy in there.>>WHITNEY- So cute!
>>KYNDALL- I love him! Let’s go decorate the rest of the house, and then
we’ll go check out the food.>>WHITNEY- Ok, sounds good>>KYNDALL- Oh my goodness, Marlo.
>>WHITNEY- Look at this spread, this looks incredible.
>>KYNDALL- This is amazing.>>MARLO- I’m glad that you love it.
We have a nice taco bar spread set up for you, we have three different choices
for you for the taco shells, a couple meat options, and just a great selection
of toppings to choose from.>>WHITNEY- Oh and I love these little mints.
>>KYNDALL- We really cranked up the beach theme, we made our cutlery sets
look like little beach towels, and we did our food markers
as beach signs.>>WHITNEY- Love it.>>KYNDALL- And Stephanie, this cake,
oh my goodness!>>STEPHANIE- I had so much fun
making this cake for you. So the top tier, we have
the oversize coconut drink, we have the buttercream ombre waves,
and then brown sugar sand.>>WHITNEY- My dad loves coconuts,
that sounds perfect.>>STEPHANIE- Great! And I made some sugar cookie cutouts
that are pineapples, and some pretzel rod palm trees.
And then we also have some donuts that have the pineapple rings on top,
keeping with the theme.>>WHITNEY- Oh my gosh, wonderful.
>>KYNDALL- All of it’s so cute. I can’t even handle it. And the coconut
drink on that cake is making me think that we need to check out our signature
cocktail.>>WHITNEY- Sure, let’s do it.>>MARLO- Alright ladies, here is your
drink station. I love how it turned out with all the colors. We have beer, and
then we have sodas that tie in colorfully with your tropical theme.
>>KYNDALL- Oh yeah.>>MARLO- And then we also have our
signature cocktail, Siesta on the Beach. [GIGGLING]
>>KYNDALL- This looks delicious.
Let’s whip one of these up.>>WHITNEY-Mmm, it’s so good! Marlo, to you and your team at HyVee,
you completely exceeded my expectations.>>MARLO- Thank you.
>>WHITNEY- And Kyndall, you and Hallmark, girl, I could not have done this
without you.>>KYNDALL- It was our pleasure, really.
>>WHITNEY- Thank you so much.>>KYNDALL- So I think we’ve got you
totally set up, we are ready to party- oh! Wait, we’re not actually ready to party
yet, one last touch for you.>>WHITNEY- Awww, thank you.>>KYNDALL- And now we’re ready to party. Oh my gosh, it’s unbelievable!>>WHITNEY- This is Kyndall, she’s from
Hallmark. Her and HyVee helped me plan the party for you.
>>MAN- Well, thanks for doing this.>>KYNDALL- Congratulations on your
retirement.>>MAN- Much appreciated. This is glorious. Can’t even believe
that’s a cake. Thank you for setting this up.>>KYNDALL- Of course.>>MAN- It looks
delicious.>>WHITNEY- Oh, and I have a surprise for you.>>MAN- More? OK.
>>WHITNEY- Yes. Come check it out.>>WHITNEY- Come with me.
>>MAN- OK, oK.>>MAN- Oh my…
>>WHITNEY- It’s a retirement survival kit.>>WHITNEY- Flipflops. Your beverages
of choice.>>MAN- Thank you.>>WHITNEY- Some sunscreen.
MAN- Sunscreen would be very helpful. Very, very helpful. And this,
what about this?>>WHITNEY- I wanted you to have that
so you could take it with you.>>MAN- Look how much hair I had!
>>WHITNEY- [LAUGHS]>>WHITNEY- Don’t forget the card.>>MAN- Thank you so much.
