Parents upset over principal’s resignation

I THINK THE STUDENTS ARE VERY
DISMAYED. KYLE: PARENTS JENNIFER CLEARY
AND ALICIA GIFTOS SAY THE
RESIGNATION OF SCARBOROUGH HIGH
PRINCIPAL DAVID CREECH COMES AS
A SHOCK TO THEM AND THEI
CHILDREN.>>THEY SPEAK AND THINK VERY
HIGHLY OF OUR PRINCIPAL AND
TRULY DO NOT WANT TO SEE HIM GO
.
KYLE: THEY SAY HE DECIDED TO
STEP DOWN FRIDAY, A DAY AFTER LAST THURSDAY’S SCHOOL BOARD
MEETING WHERE SCHOOL START TIMES
WERE DEBATED ONCE AGAIN. BUT PARENTS ARE FRUSTRATED,
SAYING THE RESIGNATION FOLLOWS
MONTHS OF FACULTY AND STAFF PUSH
BACK AGAINST SUPERINTENDENT’S
JULIE KUKENBERGER’S POLICIES,
LIKE THE NEW PROFICIENCY BAS EDUCATION SYSTEM.>>ONE OF THE CONCERNS FOR HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS IS THE WAY THAT
COLLEGES WILL LOOK AT THEIR
TRANSCRIPTS. KYLE: THE STATE WITHDREW IT’S
RULES ON THE NEW DIPLOMA
GUIDELINES IN OCTOBER, AND
PARENTS QUESTIONED WHY
KUKENBERGER STILL MOVED FORWARD
WITH IT FOR THIS YEAR’S FRESHMEN.>>THE SUPERINTENDENT IS
UNWILLING TO HEAR THE VOICES OF
THOSE THAT ARE BEING IMPACTED
THESE CHANGES. AND THOSE WHO SPEAK OUT ARE
BEING SILENCED. KYLE: AS SEEN IN THIS
SUPERINTENDENT’S LETTER SENT IN
APRIL, WITH TENSION GROWING AS
SHE ASKS TEACHERS TO END PUBLIC
DISCUSSION IN FRONT OF STUDENTS
OVER THE PROPOSED START TIMES.>>TEACHERS AND STUDENTS HAVE
THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THE
OPINION ON THESE ISSUES WITHOUT
FEAR OF RETALITION BY THE
SUPERINTENDENT. KYLE: NEITHER SUPERINTENDENT
KUKENBERGER NOR PRINCIPAL CREECH
RESPONDED TO OUR REQUEST FOR
COMMENT. BUT SCARBOROUGH BOARD OF
EDUCATION SENT US THIS STATEMENT
.
AS WITH ANY SCHOOL LEADER
RESIGNATION, QUESTIONS, CONCER
AND RUMORS CAN DEVELOP. I WISH TO ASSURE EVERYONE THAT
WE ARE PROUD OF THE EDUCATION WE
PROVIDE TO OUR YOUNG PEOPLE, OUR
STUDENTS WILL REMAIN OUR PRIMA
FOCUS EACH DAY. IN SCARBOROUGH, KYLE JONES WMTW
