“ADAM SCHIFF THEREFORE LIED TO CONGRESS…” – TRUMP CALLS FOR SCHIFF’S IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION

President Donald Trump called for the resignation
of Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff after the representative’s parody account of his conversation with a
foreign diplomat was given on the floor of the House of Representatives. “Rep. Adam Schiff fraudulently read to Congress,
with millions of people watching, a version of my conversation with the President of Ukraine
that doesn’t exist,” the president said in a tweet on Friday. “He was supposedly reading the exact transcribed
version of the call, but he completely changed the words to make it sound horrible, an (sic)
me sound guilty,” he wrote, assuring the public that his conversation with Ukrainian
President Volodymyr Zelensky was “perfect.” “HE WAS DESPERATE AND HE GOT CAUGHT,”
Trump continued. “Adam Schiff therefore lied to Congress and attempted to defraud
the American Public. He has been doing this for two years. I am calling for him to immediately
resign from Congress based on this fraud!” During his parody account of the president’s
conversation with the foreign official Schiff read what he said was Trump’s actual intent
during the conversation: “This is the essence of what the president
communicates: ‘We’ve been very good to your country, very good. No other country
has done as much as we have. But you know what? I don’t see much reciprocity here.
I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you though. And I’m going to say this
only seven times, so you’d better listen good,’” Schiff acted. “‘I want you to make up dirt on my political
opponent, understand? Lots of it. On this and on that. I’m going to put you in touch
with people, not just any people. I’m going to put you in touch with the attorney general
of the United States, my attorney general Bill Barr. He’s got the whole weight of
the American law enforcement behind him. And I’m going to put you in touch with Rudy.
You’re going to love him. Trust me,’” Schiff’s fictionalized Trump says. ‘”You know what I’m asking, and so I’m
only going to say this a few more times, in a few more ways. And by the way, don’t call
me again. I’ll call you when you have done what I asked,’” Schiff insisted later that his comments were
meant “to be, at least in part, parody,” according to The New York Post. “The fact that that’s not clear is a separate
problem in and of itself. Of course, the president never said, if I — if you don’t understand
me, I’m going to say it seven more times. My point is, that’s the message that the
Ukraine president was receiving in not so many words,” Schiff said. Schiff hit back at Trump on Twitter, within
hours of the president’s onslaught, accusing the president of engaging in “a shakedown
to get election dirt from a foreign country” and then trying to cover it up. “You’re right about one thing — your
words need no mockery. Your own words and deeds mock themselves,” Schiff wrote. “But
most importantly here, they endanger our country.” Trump responded with renewed accusations against
Schiff later, calling for the House committee leader to be investigated for his alleged
lies. “Rep. Adam Schiff totally made up my conversation
with Ukraine President and read it to Congress and Millions,” Trump tweeted. “He must
resign and be investigated. He has been doing this for two years. He is a sick man!”
